Chaperone Handbook

Chairpeople: Maggie Hale & Cheryl Worobetz - chaperones@ojrbandmpo.com

Have you ever wondered what goes on during the bus rides to games and shows? Do you want a front row seat to the show AND a backstage pass to be with THE BAND? Then, being a chaperone is the job for you! Chaperone volunteers provide reliable adult supervision during football games, band shows, cavalcades, and parades. We assist with student equipment, uniforms, and props; move the band through crowds, and provide assistance in the event of a medical incident. You’re already going to the games and shows anyway, come experience it with the band! We can almost guarantee it’ll be the coolest and most fun volunteer job you’ve ever had! See below for more information…

**We are currently in dire need of Medical Volunteers. A medical volunteer is needed at every performance event. If you are a certified first aid responder, RN, LPN, EMT, MD or any type of certified medical or health practitioner, please consider signing up! Ideally, the more medical volunteers we have available in sharing this responsibility, the better!**

How to Become a Chaperone

Thank you for considering becoming a marching band chaperone! This is a great opportunity to be involved with the band and meet other parents, as well as to interact with the students. As chaperones we provide supervision during football games, cavalcades, and parades, as well as help band members with their uniforms, equipment, and props as they prepare for performances. We assist with uniform care and maintenance, crowd control, and most importantly with any medical issue or emergency.

We are hoping and planning for a strong return to a full Marching Band Season for 2021! But if the events of 2020 have taught us anything, it is to be flexible and prepared for last minute changes! So, we encourage you to get involved early and help us be as prepared as possible. You can chaperone one event or multiple events, there are no minimum commitments! So whether you’re a new band parent or seasoned band parent who always wanted to travel with the band, here’s how to make it happen.

First things first: In order to be a chaperone, the following clearances and documents must be completed and approved by the Athletic Department via the Volunteer Application Form found on the OJR District website:
  • #1 - A State Police Criminal Record Check (must be updated every 5 years)
  • #2 - PA Child Abuse History Clearance (must be updated every 5 years)
  • #3 - Federal Criminal History Report
    • a. If you’ve lived in PA for 10 or more years, you may complete the “Exemption from FBI Clearance - Volunteer Form” to be exempt from fingerprinting.
    • b. If you’ve lived in PA for fewer than 10 years, you must register online at IdentoGO to schedule fingerprinting.
  • #4 - PDE - 6004 - Act24 Arrest/Conviction Report and Certification Form
  • #5 - OJR Volunteer Application Form -- Complete and submit after all the previous forms have been obtained and are ready to be uploaded ** All clearance documents must be uploaded to this Application Form
  • #6 - Bring your driver’s license or photo ID to the High School front office to be scanned into the Raptor screening program.

Instructions and links to all necessary forms can be found HERE.

Now that you’ve got your clearance process going, click on our Sign-Up Genius for a full list of this year’s games and events. Once that clearance gets Approved, sign-up for a spot!

And, prior to your first chaperoning ‘gig,’ please take some time to peruse the Chaperone Handbook for more details on chaperone responsibilities.
