Spirit Wear

Description of the Committee:
Spirit Wear is usually run by one person, though could easily be run by co-chairs. A selection of Spirit Wear is offered during band camp before school starts so the High School and Middle School marching bands can have current spirit wear for OJR’s home Cavalcade the first weekend in October. A second Spirit Wear is made in the fall, once school has started, to offer Spirit Wear to all bands in the High, Middle and Elementary Schools.
What the Committee Chair does:
Prior to the start of band camp (as early as May or June), contact is made with Tracy McLaughlin at Longstreth to make decisions regarding what Spirit Wear is offered this year. Colors are chosen and a graphic is selected. Due dates are chosen. Longstreth creates the order forms and the chair gets them out to the band directors for distribution. A night or 2 is scheduled at the High School with size samples for trying on and a table is available at the Fall Preview. Once order forms are collected, they need to be compiled and totals are sent to Tracy for processing. Money is collected with the orders and ultimately turned in to the treasurer. It takes approximately a month for the items to be returned, then the orders are distributed. This is all repeated for the second order. Mr. Hess is very helpful with communication with the Elementary Schools. Most communication with Tracy has been by email.
What the volunteers for the committee need to do:
Volunteers may be used at the discretion of the chair for assistance with compiling orders, helping with distribution and manning tables for display and trying on.
For the Committee Chair, how much time is needed and when:
Time is needed for creating what is offered in the orders and distributing the order forms (mostly by email). Then when order forms are compiled and money collected and given to the treasurer. When orders come in time is needed to organize them for distribution and then the actual distribution.
